Taleqan in Ancient Times

Civic Taleqan can be traced back to the period before Christ was born. Historical record indicates that civil life in some parts of Taleqan goes as far back as some 4000 years ago. Documents confirm that Taleqani people have been descendants of Medians and shared many historical, religious, and social events. Taleqan was part of the Median land in ancient times.

People of Amard worked in their workshops at home to provide clothing, food, and tools for house, warfare, and farming as well as other utensils. Their clothing was made of the skin of goat and a fabric they called Sabz Zan. They made their bow out of bamboo which they grew. They kept their arrows in their left hand and put their bows on their shoulders and wore a sword. They had a shield, lance, and small dagger which they wore on themselves. Their weapons included a shield and a small lance as well as a machete.

Kenneth Korth writes, “After Alexander invaded Persia and destroyed many towns, he entered the quarter of Amards. Amard people had certain customs and characteristics. They were hard-working and brave people who were defeated only after Alexander threatened to set fire to their jungles.

With the advent of Islam, Amards’ lands grew in significance, whereas their reputation had faded in the Sassanid period and replaced by Dilam and Dilaman.

Today’s Taleqani people are known to be descendents of Amard tribe.
